Attack on Police in Edenpark condemned

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, has in the strongest possible terms, condemned the attack on police in Edenpark on Thursday, 12 October 2023. The Provincial Commissioner is calling for perpetrators to be arrested immediately as this behaviour towards law enforcement officers cannot be tolerated.

It is reported that police officers from Edenpark police station were on routine patrols when they noticed a car that looked suspicious. It is alleged that as the police stopped the car, community members who were at a nearby park started to attack the police. The members had to fire warning shots to protect themselves from community members who were attacking them.

This is the second incident in a week, where police were attacked in Edenpark. The Station Commander is still nursing injuries after he was attacked and injured by the community member on Sunday, as he was responding to an assault case. The suspect has since been arrested and denied bail.

“The violent behaviour of some of the community of Edenpark and lack of respect towards the police will not be tolerated. All those who were involved in the attack on police must be arrested and brought to justice,” said Lieutenant General Mawela.
