House robbery suspects arrested for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms in Sundowner

Two male suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Sundowner, Randburg.

On Thursday, 26 October 2023, officers received information about a house robbery in the Randburg area where the victim was allegedly stabbed by the suspects.

Whilst on patrol in the Honeydew policing precinct the officers spotted a silver Toyota Corolla which matched the description given. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle which sped off and a chase ensued.

The occupants of the Corolla started shooting at the officers who returned fire. The suspects alighted out of the vehicle at Puttick Avenue in Sundowner still shooting at officers in an attempt to flee the scene on foot.
Two male suspects were arrested with one sustaining critical injuries. Four firearms which include a rifle, two pistols, one revolver and ammunition were recovered by the officers.

The first suspect was detained at Honeydew SAPS and the second suspect was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital under police guard.

The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound.

It is alleged that the suspects have been terrorizing the community of Honeydew and surrounding areas, and it was further alleged that the rifle and revolver recovered by the officers belonged to the victim of the house robbery.
