A male suspect was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Florida, Roodepoort.
On Friday, 13 October 2023, officers received information of a suspect identified as an illegal miner who was in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The operational team proceeded to the given location where they were placed in strategic positions to observe the premises before infiltrating.
The officers entered the premises, and upon entry, one male was found and searched.
An illegal firearm and a knife were found in the male’s possession. A further search was conducted in the house and another illegal firearm was found in the cupboard.
The suspect affirmed that both firearms belonged to him and that he works as an illegal miner in the Jerusalema Informal Settlement area.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Florida SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation. He is due to appear in court during the week.
