Suspect arrested in possession of detonation cables

An 18-year-old suspect was arrested after being found in possession of ten (30 metre) detonation cables in Buffelspruit near Malelane.

Drop in safe’s Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Cash Transporting Vehicles have been targeted by criminals most recently. Not only money is stolen, but mostly some innocent lives are lost due to eager for criminals’ self-enrichment. As a result, the police in Mpumalanga prioritised strategies to bring an end to these deadly activities with a hope to bring those responsible to book.

A whistle blower alerted police about a suspect who was seen in possession of suspected explosives in Schoemansdal policing area.

The gathered intelligent information was then operationalised and members made a follow-up which led to the suspect who was found with the said items. He reportedly failed to give explanations of how and where he got the cables as well as the reason why he was in possession of these items.

He was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of explosives and will appear at the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga tomorrow, Thursday 19 October 2023.

The management of the SAPS in Mpumalanga has commended members of the public for availing the information to the authorities which played a role in possible prevention of loss of people’s lives and destruction of properties.
