The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng Province, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the members of Florida Crime Prevention Unit for their vigilance and swift response that led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles, an AK 47 riffle with magazines loaded with ammunition.
On 02 October 2023, the team was patrolling around Florida area when they spotted a suspicious looking man carrying a bag. The man reportedly started running when he saw police approaching him. He was cornered inside a certain yard, where upon searching his bag, the members found an AK47 riffle, two AK47 magazines with ammunition, masks and gloves.
Two vehicles were also found in the same yard and were established to be stolen as per Sunnyside and Dawnpark cases.
Both the suspect and owner of the yard were arrested for possession of possession of stolen vehicles and possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
