A 70-year-old female was injured during a robbery at her Valley View Drive in Redcliffe – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on scene at approximately 12:46 and discovered the female bleeding from a laceration to her right hand. According to the victim, a suspect confronted her when she opened her security gate. He produced a knife and wrestled her to the ground. The robber demanded her cellphone and cash.
The victim attempted to fight off her attacker. She managed to disarm him during the struggle but the suspect began suffocating her. He retrieved the knife and threatened to stab her. She handed over her Samsung cellphone. He thereafter fled on foot.
The RUSA R44 Helicopter was conducting aerial patrols over Verulam – KZN and was routed to assist in the search for the suspect. An extensive search was conducted but no arrests were made.
The victim was treated for her injuries on scene.
