Excellent investigation leads to arrest of suspect, recovery of unlawful firearm and hijacked vehicle

The Police have arrested a 36-year-old suspect during a well-coordinated, crime intelligence-driven operation that was conducted in Namakgale policing prencict on Tuesday night, 28 November 2023

The suspect was arrested at about 19:00, following an intense investigation after an incident in which he opened fire on another metered taxi driver this week on 27 November in Lulekani, during a suspected taxi violence feud. The victim managed to escape unharmed.

The members of the multi-disciplinary team traced the suspect to his home in Majhejhe village. Upon his arrest, police seized one unlicensed firearm with one round of ammunition, believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.

The team followed up on another information about a group of armed suspects who just hijacked a Toyota GD6 at Mamaila Village in Sekgosese policing area. The suspects were tracked down which resulted in a high-speed chase towards Ga-Mothobeki village in Bolobedu, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The vehicle was confiscated as part of an investigation. An imminent breakthrough in the arrest of the suspects involved in the hijacking incident is expected as police investigations continue.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for sterling work. She went further to warn other criminals that these kinds of arrests will be the order of the day for the entire period of the festive season.

The arrested suspect will soon appear before the Lulekani and Namakgale Magistrate’s Court facing charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
