Five suspects heading for Laingsburg Court in connection with suspected stolen goods

The continued focus by police to protect essential infrastructure and to arrest those perpetrators who threatens the viability of the economy, led to the arrest of five suspects along the N1 at Laingsburg for possession of suspected stolen goods.

On Friday, 24 November 2023 at about 05:00, members attached to the Laingsburg police conducted patrols along the N1 between Matjiesfontein and Laingsburg when they stopped a suspicious looking vehicle. A search of the vehicle ensued upon which the vigilant members found bundles of copper wire in the boot. The four occupants were unable to account for the possession thereof. They were subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

The foursome aged between 31 and 42 remain in custody. They are all scheduled to appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on the mentioned charge.

Meanwhile, in the early morning hours on Sunday, 26 November 2023, Laingsburg police members responded to information of illegal activities along the N1. On their arrival they found a man with bundles of wire. He was arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

The suspect, in his early twenties, is still in police custody. He will appear in court once charged.

These arrests are part of ongoing efforts by police to protect essential infrastructure in the region. Operations such as these will be maintained to ensure that those threatening the sustainability of the economy are brought to book.
