The Bellville based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team have on 10 November 2023 arrested a 17-year-old suspect for his alleged involvement in the murder of a police official in Philippi East during 2022. An off duty police official, who was stationed at the Local Criminal Record Centre in Pretoria at the time of his death, was gunned down while on vacation in Cape Town. During the attack the deceased was robbed of his official firearm.
In an unrelated matter members of the Hawks National Priority Violent Crime further arrested a 21-year-old suspect for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition after a search was conducted in a particular address in Philippi where they recovered a Victor 9mm pistol with ammunition. The serial number of the firearm was filed off.
Both suspects are expected to appear at Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 13 November 2023 on two separate charges.
