Limpopo SAPS conducted Operation Banna at Mankweng policing precinct

Operation Banna was activated in Limpopo. Law enforcement members painted Mankweng policing precinct blue through heightened police visibility to ensure a safer festive season for all visitors and residents in the Limpopo Province.

The operation was conducted at Mankweng policing precinct, in Capricorn District, on Wednesday, 29 November 2023, by SAPS members from various units and stations, Traffic Officers and the local CPF members. Focus areas were undocumented persons, drugs, stop and searches including road blocks, amongst others.

Successes were accumulated as follows:

* 02 X Public drinking: Total value R200

* 01 X Selling liquor without a license (R200)

* 02 X Dealing in drugs (R600)

* 01 X Failure to display fire extinguisher (R1500)

* 01 X Driving without a driver’s licence(R1500)

* 01 X Possession of Illicit cigarettes (R1500)

* 01 X Contravention of Second Hand Goods Act (R500)

Arrests:

* 01 X Possession of dangerous weapon (Okapi Knife)

* 01 X Possession of suspected unknown drug

* 01 X possession of crystal drug

* 04 X Dealing in drugs

* 01 X Smoking dagga in public

* 05 X Undocumented persons

* 05 X Illegal gambling

* 38 X 10 (380 boxes) of Illicit Cigarettes worth street value R14 000.

In one of the incidents during the operation, Crime Intelligence team provided information about a male selling illicit cigarettes around the area. The team operationalised the information and the suspect was found with 380 boxes illicit cigarettes. He was immediately arrested for dealing and possession of illicit cigarettes.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the Operational team, for their continuous efforts displayed daily in the execution of their duties.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court.
