SAPS Mphephu launched a massive manhunt for the suspects responsible for burning a man to death

The Police in Mphephu have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects responsible for the murder of a 31-year-old male person who was allegedly burned to death by the members of the community at Tshituni Tsha Ntha in Vhembe District.

It is reported that the Police received information about the suspected vigilante attack on Sunday 26 November 2023 at 21:10. Upon their arrival at the scene of crime, they discovered the lifeless burnt body of a person who was allegedly attacked by the members of the community accusing him for stealing and robbing people of their cellphones. The victim was later identified as Corswell Matumba of Ha-Ramantsha village. Police are hot on the heels of the suspects responsible for the murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the brutal manner in which the victim was fatally wounded. “We always advise the community to refrain from vigilantism and seek assistance from the police, local leadership as well as community based crime structures than taking the law into their hands,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The Police appeal to anyone with information that can assist to arrest the suspects responsible for the mob justice incident to report to the Investigating Officer Sergeant Thendo Ravele at 082 319 9558 or to SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 alternatively report to the nearest Police and can also share it anonymously on MySAPS App.

Police investigations are underway.
