Streets and areas affected by the annual Soweto Marathon on Sunday, 5 November 2023

The City of Johannesburg is opening its roads to runners on Sunday the 5th of November 2023 for mass participation in the African Bank Soweto Marathon over distances of 42km, 21km, and 10km.

Roads in the following areas will be affected between 05:00 to 16:00.
• Nasrec
• Riverlea
• Orlando
• Diepkloof
• Pimville
• Rockville
• Jabulani
• Central Western Jabavu
• Mofolo
• Dube
• Kliptown
• Pennyville
• Aeroton

Major roads affected include the following:
• Soweto Highway
• Randshow Road
• Nasrec Road
• Chris Hani Road
• Modjaji Street
• Klipspruit Valley Road
• Union Road
• Koma Road
• Elias Motsoaledi Road
• Mphuti Street
• Machaba Drive
• Mzilikatzi Street
• Mncube Drive
• Mtipa Street
• Kumalo Main Road
• Vilakazi Street
• Armitage Street
• Martha Louw Street
• Mooki Street
• Main Road
• New Canada Road
• Main Reef Road

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers will be deployed to monitor and control traffic at all road closures, affected roads, and routes.

Residents and members of the public are urged to exercise caution and patience for runners during the duration of the race.
