16 motorists arrested in Limpopo for drunken driving since the beginning of the Christmas long weekend

Law enforcement officers have thus far arrested 16 motorists for drunken driving since the beginning of the Christmas long weekend. The drivers were nabbed at various operations conducted on 23 and 24 December. This brings the total number of drunken driving arrests made in the province since the beginning of December 2023 to 178. All the drivers arrested over this weekend are scheduled to appear at magistrate courts on Wednesday, 27 December 2023.

Stephen Matjena, Head of the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has commended law enforcement officers for their relentlessness pursuit of law breakers. “It is cause for concern that we still have so many irresponsible drivers who choose to disregard warnings on drunk driving. The arrests are however a commendable step towards making this festive season safer for all road users. Our officers remain deployed at critical points across the province with a clear instruction to arrest motorists driving under influence of alcohol. Motorists are therefore urged to always obey the rules of the road, for safe journeys during this joyous season”, said Matjena.
