Dog rescued from sinkhole in Tongaat Toll Plaza

A female dog was rescued by a Reaction Officer after spending at least five days in a sinkhole near the Tongaat Toll Plaza on the N2 – KZN.

Employees of the Toll Plaza contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after they heard a dog barking in an open field next to the freeway.

On arrival, other employees informed RUSA Members that they could hear the dog barking since Saturday (23/12/2023). They attempted to locate it without success.

The Reaction Officer searched the large field and discovered the K9 trapped in a sinkhole measuring approximately 1.5 meters deep. The Officer utilised a ladder and freed the trapped animal.

She was transported to RUSA HQ where she was provided a meal and a kennel to rest.
