Five intoxicated motorists arrested in the Tsakane area

On Sunday 24 December 2023 from 14h00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Tsakane precinct Officers, in partnership with other Law Enforcers, apprehended five (5) drivers, for having one too many.

The lawbreakers, who are between the ages of 20 and 50, were nabbed during an ongoing anti-drunk and driving operation, as part of the festive season operational plan, to ensure road safety and to monitor drivers’ behavior, on our roadways. The semi-roadblock was staged on Black Road and in attendance, was the EMPD’s Regional Director/Brigadier K. Mahlangu, a delegate from the

Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Mr. Msimang, who is responsible for monitoring and compliance. The joint venture, with the South African Police Service (SAPS), under the command of Colonel Mabuza, was to send out a strong message to motorists, who still want to take chances on the busy roads, this festive season by drinking and driving. At the end of the day, the Tsakane Precinct Commander, Chief Superintendent/Lieutenant Colonel Keetse, who facilitated the operation, saw a total of twenty-six (26) written notices issued to wrongdoers and closed with five (5) drivers, facing charges of ‘driving while under the influence of alcohol/intoxicated’.

The arrested motorists were taken to the Tsakane police station and they are expected, to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.

As the EMPD, we will continue to partner with other Law Enforcers, to help maintain law and order, during this festive season and beyond.
