Police members deployed in Guguletu and Harare detained two suspects on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition on Sunday 10 December 2023.
Police members attached to Operation Restore, deployed in Gugulethu policing precinct were busy with crime combatting patrols when the convoy drove through NY3 at around 23:30. The members entered a house and ensued with a search of the premises and the occupants. In the process they confiscated a consignment of drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash. They detained a 51-year-old man on a charge of dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated intervention in the early hours of Monday 11 December 2023, Harare Crime Prevention Unit was busy with patrols near Zwelitsha when they noticed an unknown man fled when he saw the patrol vehicle, pointing a firearm in their direction. The members gave chase, apprehended the man and confiscated a 9mm pistol found in his possession. They arrested the 42-year-old man on charges relating to the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as pointing of a firearm.
Once charged, the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Strand Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
