Reaction officer attacked in Tongaat

A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was attacked and bitten by an intoxicated male after refusing the perpetrator access to a business premises in Tongaat – Kwazulu Natal.

The Reaction Officer suffered open bite wounds to his left chest and bodily injuries and was treated on scene by Paramedics. When back-up Reaction Officers arrived on scene they established that the male was consuming alcohol, became violent and attempted to enter a busy supermarket on Old Main Road/R102 in Tongaat.

The store contacted the RUSA Operations Center to remove the man who attacked the responsing officer with a beer bottle and began biting him. Minimum force (teargas & tongfa) was used to retrain the suspect who broke free and fled.

Reaction Officers viewed CCTV footage of the incident at 15:09 on December 23, 2023 and eventually identified the suspect. He was tracked to his residence but fled the area upon noticing the Officers.

The injured Officer received a Tetanus injection has since reported back On Duty.
