SAPS Limpopo intensifies Safer Festive Season Operations in Thohoyandou

The Police in Limpopo have intensified Safer Festive Season Operations in Thohoyandou policing precinct following the arrest of fifty three (53) suspects for various crimes.

The Multi-Disciplinary Operation Banna was conducted at Thohoyandou in Vhembe District on Tuesday 19 December 2023 from 07:00 in the morning until the afternoon at about 16:00 comprises of the SAPS and other Law Enforcement Agencies that included Provincial Traffic, Community Police Forum and Community in Blue Patrollers who are a force multiplier in the fight against crime.

The operation was led by the Provincial Men for Change who saturated the streets of Thohoyandou and surrounding areas to ensure the rule of law and order, thus creating safer communities.

The operation was aimed at execution of the crime prevention duties that are roadblocks, patrolling of shopping complex, ATMs, fuel stations, vehicle check points, stop and searches as well as crime awareness campaign whereby pamphlets with the crime prevention hints were distributed and liquor outlets compliance inspections conducted.

The 53 suspects are arrested for various offences ranging from public drinking, road traffic act, undocumented immigrants and warrant of arrest.

The total fine money for the road traffic act summons stand at R29 200.

Suspects arrested are expected to appear before Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon in the week.

The Provincial Commissioner stressed that these operations are conducted in all districts of the province and will be intensified to enhance the safety of Limpopo citizens this festive season. “Our people can expect more of these operations aimed at creating a safer environment for all during this heightened festive season. With the additional boots on the ground, following the deployment of new Police Constables, a safer environment is imminent,”said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
