Two suspects were arrested by Crime Prevention Task Team in Botshabelo for fraud and theft on Wednesday 03 January 2023. The two scammers had earlier targeted pensioners who went to withdraw their old age grant money at different filing stations and shopping complexes.
Suspects were identified by victims with a white Hyundai sedan later known to belong to one of the rental companies.
The suspects approached the victims standing at Automatic Teller Machine and offered them help. The victims noticed later that their grant money was stolen.
Fraud and theft cases were opened at Botshabelo police station and information passed on to the Task Team to operationalise it.
Described Hyundai sedan was spotted near one of the shopping complexes; stopped and then searched. The two African males aged 27 and 33 were then arrested. Suspects will appear in Botshabelo Magistrates’ Court soon.
