Marsh street in Mossel Bay is currently under construction

Traffic in the central business district has been disrupted since last week due to maintenance work on Marsh Street.

The work includes replacement of kerbs, the removal and re-placement of the asphalt layer, and the reinstating of road marking on completion of the work.

This maintenance work is done in intermediate phases of 5 to 10 years, depending on the maintenance needs. Parts of the work were already completed last week (January 22 to 26) and this week (January 29 to February 2) motorists will notice that traffic flow on Marsh Street past the municipal building is congested at times due to lane restrictions.
The construction work between Plaza Street and Church Street will be completed on February 2. Next week from February 5 to 9, the focus from Monday to Wednesday (February 5-7) is on maintenance work from the Spar entrance to Plaza Street. In order to minimize the public impact on traffic flow, the work is scheduled to take place during the night between 18:00 and 06:00. On Thursday and Friday (February 8-9), next week, maintenance will be carried out on Michell Street (from Marsh to Bland Street).

The following arrangements regarding the traffic flow will apply:
• Michell Street will be closed for 2 days between Marsh Street and Bland Street;
• Marsh Street from Church Street to Louis Fourie Road will offer two-way traffic with one-way traffic per avenue;
• Bland Street from Michell Street to Kerk Street will be one-way traffic for a period of 7 days.

Members of the public are thanked for their patience and are requested to take note of road markings and staff’s instructions during the maintenance work.
