Northern Cape roadblocks yield successes during the festive period

In an effort to curb criminal activities along major routes throughout the Northern Cape Province, roadblocks were conducted in all 5 districts recently.

Roadblocks were held on the N12 and urban areas in the Frances Baard District, the R31 and N14 in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, the N1 in the Pixley Ka Seme District, the N14 and routes through Grobblershoop and Lime Acres in the ZF Mgcawu District and the N7 in Springbok in the Namakwa District.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola led the roadblock on the N7 in the Namakwa District.

Dwellings in the Namakwa District were searched and 13 foreign nationals were arrested.

Equipment believed to be used during illicit mining activities were also confiscated.

During the roadblocks a total of 2 527 vehicles and 4 617 persons were stopped and searched.

Fines to the amount of R154 450 were issued for various traffic violations.

Lieutenant General Otola commended the members and other law enforcement agencies for their commitment during the Safer Festive Season Operation and for their continued dedication towards the prevention of crime. She encouraged members to be vigilant at all times and to adhere to police safety measures to ensure that they are operationally ready and safe at all times.
