On-duty policeman robbed by bogus cops in Tongaat

An On-Duty Policeman was robbed of his state-issued Z88 pistol and state cellphone during a Business Robbery on Ramiah Drive in Metcalf – Kwazulu Natal a short while ago (Thursday).

The South African Police Services (SAPS) in Tongaat – Kwazulu Natal contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 14:12 requesting air support to track eleven (11) suspects who fled the scene in two (2) white Ford Ranger bakkies. The RUSA R44 Helicopter is currently (14:41) conducting a search.

It was established that all suspects were dressed in SAPS uniforms. Two of the robbers were female. They entered a car sales in the Tongaat – KZN area under of the pretext of serving a warrant. An employee from the business contacted the Tongaat SAPS requesting assistance to verify if the warrant was legitimate.

A SAPS Official from the Tongaat SAPS responded to the call in a branded Police vehicle.

On arrival, the suspects robbed the Warrant Officer and several Security Officers based at the premises of their firearms.

They also stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the business before they sped off in their getaway vehicles. The Police Vehicle was not taken by the suspects.

No injuries were reported.
