Police arrest 17 suspects on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as fraud

The prerequisite of police members to be alert resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects in two isolated incidents on Friday, 05 January 2024, on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and fraud.

Lentegeur police Serious and Violent Crimes members were busy with tracing operations on Friday, 05 January 2024, when they followed up on information about a wanted suspect driving in a green Fiat Uno. The members noticed the vehicle and stopped the motor vehicle and searched the vehicle and the occupants. They seized a CZ 7.65 pistol with ammunition and detained three suspects on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated intervention, an integrated operation was conducted in the city centre led by members of the South African Police. The members entered a local hotel and entered a room where they found 14 foreign nationals. They searched the room and confiscated three Apple Mac books, 13 Apple pro I Phones including bank cards and fraudulent Identity Books. It is alleged that that the suspects booked into the hotel and paid with fraudulent bank cards. The five males and nine females were arrested on a charge of fraud

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain and Cape Town Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
