Police arrest two suspects in Vryburg and Khuma for possession of drugs and unlawful possession of ammunition

The South African Police Service (SAPS) members in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Districts arrested two suspects for possession of drugs and unlawful possession of ammunition respectively.

In Vryburg, members of K9 Unit arrested a 43-year-old Nigerian national for possession of drugs on Thursday, 25 January 2024. The members allegedly kept an observation at the suspect’s place after getting information about suspected drug dealing activities. In the process, the members obtained a search warrant which was eventually executed. During the search, the members found 891 mandrax tablets and three plastic bags containing crystal meth, all with estimated street value of R104 600.00. The suspect is expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 January 2024, for possession of drugs.

In Khuma, a crime intelligence driven operation by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Illicit Mining Team resulted in the arrest of Lesotho national (41) on Thursday, 25 January 2024, at Extension 6 kraals, Khuma Location near Stilfontein, for unlawful possession of ammunition. The members kept an observation after intelligence was received that the suspect was in possession of ammunition.

Reports suggest that the police searched the suspect’s place and found him in possession of 35 AK 47, 43 x 9mm, nine .38, two shotgun, two 7.65, 10 x 40mm and 28 other ammunition. Additionally, the police found three R5/4 magazines, and one 9mm magazine. The suspect was arrested after failing to account for the possession and is expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 January 2024. He will also be facing and additional charge for contravention of Section (41) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No. 13 of 2002).

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded both teams for their tireless efforts for confiscating drugs and ammunition as well as the arrests of the suspects.
