Teenagers who abuse substances put tremendous work-related stress on their parents who in turn suffer loss of productive working time if they have to be away from work trying to take control of their teenage children’s behaviour or attending to challenges of such situations, especially when these children are in conflict with the law.
Parents also suffer economic losses as they often need expensive professional help for their addictive children. They also become emotionally drained and exhausted which makes it difficult for them to concentrate on their work which might lead to them being unproductive.
