Suspects face charges of possession of drugs and presumed stolen property

Concerted efforts to eradicate the distribution of drugs in the Province yielded success on Monday, 15 January 2024.

Members of the Gugulethu Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations in the Gugulethu policing precinct when they stopped and searched a vehicle at a vehicle checkpoint upon which they found 4720 mandrax tablets in a plastic bag inside the vehicle. Two adult males were arrested for the possession of drugs.

They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once they have been charged.

In an unrelated matter members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 25-year-old man for the possession of presumed stolen property.

The members were busy with crime prevention duties when they saw a man pushing a trolley in Retreat Road, Retreat on Sunday morning. They stopped and searched the man and the trolley in which they found groceries and cleaning material.

It is believed that the property belongs to a school that was burgled. The origin of the property form part of the investigation.

The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today.
