The Regional Court in Mokopane handed down a six-year direct imprisonment sentence to a car thief

The Regional Court held in Mokopane have convicted and handed down six years’ direct imprisonment to a 34-year-old male accused Tshepo Gabriel Ranoto, on Tuesday 30 January 2024, for possession of stolen motor vehicle.

The court heard that the accused was found in possession of a white motor vehicle Nissan Navara Clubcab on Monday 31 July 2023 while he was at Ga-Rakgoatha village outside Mokopane in Zebediela.

The vehicle was stolen from Mokopane area in 2023 during house robbery incident. The accused was arrested, and later, the court granted him bail. As a result, he was attending trial while he was out of prison.

The case of possession of a stolen motor vehicle was successfully investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Mafiwa Nkwana (photo attached) of the SAPS Mokopane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit.

The court has declared Tshepo Ranoto unfit to possess a firearm.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers welcomed the court outcome, pointing out that this will serve as a deterrent that crime doesn’t pay.
