Vigilance by police members resulted in the arrest of three suspects for possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property

The vigilance of police members resulted in the detention of three suspects when they were found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as presumed stolen property in isolated incidents on Monday 29 January 2024.

Ravensmead police pursued information of armed teens robbing community members. They drove in the direction of Uitsig and saw a man who fitted the description, gave chase and ultimately apprehended him when he entered a premises in Vinca Street. They searched the unidentified man and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. The 17-year-old male was detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile police members attached to the Cape Winelands Economic Infrastructure Task Team responded to information of suspects damaging infrastructure. The members proceeded to Fairyland in Paarl where they found two males in possession of essential infrastructure with an estimated street value of R50 000.They detained the two males, aged 36 and 38, on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Paarl Magistrate’s Court’s on the mentioned charges.
