Western Cape Police arrest suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and dealing in dagga

On Saturday morning, 20 January 2024, members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were busy with crime prevention patrols in the hotspot areas to combat gang related shootings in the Delft policing precinct when they received a complaint of a robbery in progress in Minnesota Street, Eindhoven, Delft.

The members swiftly responded to the complaint and upon approaching the crime scene the suspects saw the police vehicle and started shooting in their direction upon which police members returned fire. Both suspects were arrested and two firearms with ammunition were recovered.

The adult males face charges with regards to the Firearm Control Act, Attack on police and attempted murder. One suspect was injured during the shootout with the police.

They are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 January 2024.

In an unrelated intervention, members of Operation Restore deployed in Kraaifontein, received information about drugs that are being sold at a premises in Dingiso Street, Bloekombos. Members proceeded to the premises on Friday evening. The members confiscated dagga cigarettes and a small quantity and bankies dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 35-year-old man was arrested for dealing in dagga.

He will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
