Integrated fight against crime benefits communities in the North West

Strengthening police and community relations leads to more arrests of criminals and results to positive success in the fight against crime. This follows continious interventions by the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.

The intervention is currently making a positive impact in the Moretele area, where the Department is working closely with the Makapanstad police station and its policing precinct which includes the villages of Makapanstad, Maubane and
Mathibestad.

The Chief of Bakgatla ba Mocha Tribal Council, Kgosi Pontsho Maubane said there is positive an impact on the relations between the police and his community.

“We appreciate the mobile police community service centre that is servicing our people here at the tribal council.
We have so far registered so more cases since the truck is here and we starting to see progress on crimes reported because there are even arrests,” said Kgosi Maubane, who emphasised that most criminal activities are as a result of being on the borders of Provinces, Gauteng, Limpopo and North West.

“We are at the cross boundaries of Provinces and all these criminals pass here, even come to do their crimes here. We then appreciate the presence of the mobile police truck, and hopeful that not so long we will have our formal police station that will service our people on a 24 hour basis to improve successes in the fight against crime,” he said.
According to the Kgosi, most criminal activities starts in the afternoon, especially after the mobile police truck has left. “Our crime starts late when we don’t have protection.”

Director for Crime Prevention and Partnerships in the Department, Ms Florence Nchoe said the fight against crime requires an integrated approach.

“We will continue working with communities and police to strengthen the fight against crime.
Police or government alone cannot win the fight, but together we can create a safer environment,” said Nchoe.
