Liquor outlet owner suspected of other serious crimes nabbed for possession of illegal firearm, ammunition and explosives

A 56-year-old male suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and explosives at Letebejane Village, in Rakgoadi policing area on Saturday, 24 February 2024.

The arrest comes after extensive investigation was launched following a spate of criminal activities in Sekhukhune District where several liquor outlets were robbed and drop safes blasted.

Investigation led the Provincial Tracking Team to a house belonging to the bar lounge owner where one shot gun with serial number filled off, 10 live ammunition and explosives (blasting cartridges) were found.

The suspect might be linked with other cases as police investigation unfolds. More arrests are eminent.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of the suspect and urged this team of members to leave no stone unturned in tracing all suspects involved

The suspect was charged with possession of illegal firearm and ammunition and contravention of the explosives act. He will appear before Nebo Magistrate’s Court soon.
