A man in his forties was brutally stabbed while shopping at the Verulam Market on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD – KZN.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance after dozens of shoppers witnessed the attack. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived scene at approximately 07:09.
The victim was discovered in a pool of blood. He was stabbed multiple times throughout his body. A Reaction Officer who was responding to the scene was flagged down by a member of the public on Ireland Street. The man advised the Officer that he was responsible for the stabbing and handed over a bloodied Okapi knife.
The suspect explained that he resides in Inanda – KZN and that the victim is his neighbour. He further explained that he and the injured male had several disputes in the past.
One of the incidents resulted in him being arrested for the rape of his four-year-old niece after the victim allegedly convinced his sister to falsely register a criminal case against him. He became enraged when he noticed the man shopping at the Verulam Market this morning and began stabbing him.
The victim was unable to provide any information due to the extent of his injuries. He was expedited to hospital by his family.
The suspect was detained at the Verulam SAPS.
