A stolen silver Chevrolet Aveo was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Umkhonto We Sizwe Road in Waterloo – KZN.
A Reaction Officer was on patrol in Lotusville – KZN at approximately 23:14 when he noticed four men in the Chevrolet Aveo parked opposite the Verulam Testing Grounds.
The RUSA Member witnessed the occupants behaving in a suspicious manner when they noticed him.
The vehicle thereafter drove off in the direction of Southridge – KZN.
The Officer followed the car while awaiting the results of a vehicle registration check.
The Operations Centre confirmed that the vehicle was sought on a criminal case registered at the Umzinto SAPS.
The Reaction Officer called for additional backup and pursued the vehicle into Waterloo – KZN.
The occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot in different directions.
An extensive search was conducted but no arrests were made.
The vehicle was impounded at SAPS Verulam.
