Two suspects nabbed in connection with stock theft appear before Marble Hall Magistrates Court

Two suspects nabbed for stock theft at Tafelkop in Motetema Policing area, appeared before Marble Hall Magistrate’s Court, on Thursday, 22 February 2024.

The case against the suspects, Kgothatso Mokwena (20) and Kgaogelo Mokolo (42) was postponed until 28 February for bail application and further investigation by Police.

The Police were summoned to a scene, where community members of Tafelkop cornered a man suspected of theft live stock. On arrival, the suspect was handed to the police with injuries, after he was allegedly, assaulted by the angry mob.

Further reports suggest that the alleged suspect led the police to his friend who kept the cattle. His friend further took the Police to the bushes between Moeding and Moganyaka villages, where the livestock was hidden. Five cattle were recovered. The duo was then arrested, and the injured suspect was taken to local hospital under Police guard.

The police are investigating cases of vigilantism and stock theft.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the Police for arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen live stock. She further condemned the community for taking the law into their own hands.

Investigation is still ongoing.
