Drunk driver robbed in Oakford

A member of the public arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters (Tuesday) requesting assistance to locate valuables stolen from his vehicle during a collision.

The man informed Reaction Officers that on Saturday (23/04/2024) he was travelling in his Nissan Juke on a narrow unpaved road in Oakford – KZN when he collided into a passing Nissan NP 300 Bakkie.

He went on to explain that he did not stop and continued driving as he was in fear of his safety. The occupants of
the damaged bakkie pursued and forcefully blocked his path of travel. The man exited his vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

He sort then assistance from a friend after the bakkie drove off. When they returned to the scene, he discovered his that Samsung S23 cellphone valued approximately R25 000 and his wallet were stolen.

During further questioning the driver of the Nissan Juke confirmed that he was intoxicated at the time of the
collision. The incident was not reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

He provided Reaction Officers with a location in the Verulam CBD where his cellphone was last tracked with the Find My Phone application. The application confirmed that the cellphone was switched off for more than 24 hours.

The location provided was densely populated & adjacent to the taxi rank. This posed a challenge to Officers attempting to recover the mobile phone.
