Hijackers caught after making dumb move with smartphones in Sea Point

Armed hijackers ruthless crime careers came to an end on Wednesday 20th of March, in Sea Point. While on patrol, Law Enforcement officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly. One of the officer’s noted the vehicle matched the same description for that which had been circulated the day before, a hijacked blue Toyota Corolla from Philippi East
With Law Enforcement pursuing the vehicle while bringing in additional support, the vehicle was eventually blockaded and surrounded. Inside the vehicle, 2 unlicensed firearms were discovered, along with 39 brand new, boxed cellphones.

It was later discovered the suspects had just committed an armed robbery from a cellphone shop on Main Rd. All 4 suspects were arrested and charged with numerous offences, including hijacking, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and reckless and negligent driving.

Law Enforcement continues to support our South African Police Service with crime prevention, but for a large part of the day the scene remained closed on High Level Rd as members from SAPS Organised Crime and Forensic Services, took to processing the scene. A special thank you to Captain Swartz from Sea Point SAPS, who went out of his way to ensure our Law Enforcement members were assisted in processing the arrests, so those charged now receive the maximum prosecution possible.

This takes us already to 9 firearms recovered in less than a week, with at least 3 hijacked vehicles recovered!
