Operation Vala Umgodi cracks down on illegal mining and other related crimes in Kleinzee

The multi-disciplinary team executing Operation Vala Umgodi remains firm in the fight against illegal mining.

On Saturday, 23 March 2024, the SAPS, joined by the SANDF and Department of Home Affairs conducted disruptive operations in Kleinzee that led to the arrest of eleven suspects for illegal mining, three undocumented persons and four suspects for drug related crimes.

Numerous mining equipment, including bags with diamond bearing gravel, generators, drugs, and money, believed to be the proceeds of crime were confiscated.
