Police apprehend a 33-year-old suspect for vehicle smuggling attempt

Limpopo police have once again demonstrated its commitment to fight crime and upholding the law with the apprehension of a 33-year-old male suspected for attempting to smuggle a vehicle out of South Africa.

On Monday 25 March 2024, members of the Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task team in a meticulously coordinated operation, intercepted a Toyota Fortuner few kilometres towards Groblers Bridge Border Post in Tomburke policing area just as the suspect was attempting to cross into Botswana.

The swift action of the officers was based on actionable intelligence that indicated the vehicle in question was reported stolen at Mall of Africa in Midrand, Gauteng last week, and the vehicle was eventually going to be smuggled into Zimbabwe via the Plumtree border post.

The suspect is currently facing charges related to the possession of presumed stolen property and will appear before Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 26 March 2024.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has lauded this team of members for their continued vigilance and efforts to curb vehicle theft and smuggling.
