Police recover three firearms and ammunition in Mitchells Plain

Police members deployed in Mitchells Plain continue to recover unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition although they came under attack in Mitchells Plain on Thursday, 07 March 2024.

Mitchells Plain police members were busy with crime combatting duties when they responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in progress. When they arrived at an open field in Falstaff Street, Eastridge, they saw three males crossing the open field.

The police members came under fire when one of the males fired several shots at them which urged the members to retaliate. They accosted one of the three males and recovered two 9mm pistols with ammunition which resulted in the arrest of an adult male on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police members attached to the Western Cape Public Order Policing, deployed in Mitchells Plain to quell the ongoing gang violence in the area, conducted a tracing operation in Beacon Valley last night. The platoon pounced on an address in Swemmer Street, searched the occupants and in the process recovered a .38 special revolver with ammunition. They detained a 27-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
