Police rid the streets of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition and recovered a hijacked vehicle

As part of crime combatting activities, police members confiscated three unlicensed firearms, a hijacked vehicle and also arrested a wanted suspect on a charge of murder in isolated incidents on Wednesday, 06 March 2024.

Police members attached to Anti-Gang Unit proceeded on foot to a residence in Ebro Street, Eindhoven to pursue information about firearms being stored at the address. When they entered the premises they ensued with a search of the occupants and the premises. They confiscated two 9mm pistols and one revolver with ammunition hidden in a cupboard in the bedroom, and detained a 36-year-old man on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

During a tracing operation conducted in the precinct a group of known gang members were taken in for profiling which resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man on a charge of murder.

In an unrelated incident, Harare police members were busy with patrols when they responded to information about a hijacked vehicle. The members proceeded to Enkanini Informal settlement where they saw the motor vehicle which fitted the description. Further investigation confirmed that the vehicle was reported hijacked in Harare. They detained an adult male on a charge of possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Khayelitsha Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
