Theft suspects apprehended in Phoenix

Two men were apprehended with a bakkie load of stolen goods in Phoenix – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were conducting a high density operation in the area when they were alerted to a theft in progress at a construction site. The caller informed the Controller On Duty that two males in a white Isuzu bakkie sped off from the premises with several steel beams.

Reaction Officers were provided with the vehicle description and registration. An extensive search was conducted and Officers located the bakkie with the stolen goods approximately one kilometre away. The left rear tyre and side shaft detached from the differential while they attempted to make their getaway.

Two males were immediately apprehended. It was established that the passenger is an employee of the construction company. He hired the vehicle from the second individual to load the stolen goods and transport it to a scrapyard.

The owner of the construction company was contacted and requested a criminal case.

Both men were handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
