Two suspects are heading to court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Mitchells Plain police detained two suspects in isolated incidents when they were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Tuesday 05 March 2024.

The police members were busy with crime combatting activities when they saw a suspicious looking man in London Street, Portlands at around 12:00. The man fled when he saw the patrol vehicle which necessitated the members to give chase on foot. They caught up with the suspect, search him and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition which resulted in the arrest of the 35 year old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, police members were busy with patrols in Eastridge at about 22:00. Upon entering Klipspringer Street, they saw a suspicious man whom they accosted and searched. Their patience were rewarded when they found the man in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They arrested the 27 year old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ court once charged.
