The Department of Transport introduced the Asiphephe Foot Soldiers Project as part of ensuring safe and supervised trips to and from school.
Learners are assisted to walk to and from school along a safe and prescribed route.
This service is prioritized at schools located within hazardous locations, where learners walk more than 2-5 km and are not benefiting from organised scholar transport.
More than 240 job opportunities have been created in this project in line with EPWP prescripts.
