Five copper cable thieves arrested in Parys

SAPS Fezile Dabi District Highway Patrol members have arrested five copper cable thieves, aged between 32 and 45, in the Parys CBD.

On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, in the early hours at around 03:45, the members were conducting patrol duties when they received information about a white Mazda suspected to be involved in theft of batteries in the North West vicinity. It was further alleged that the vehicle was driving along the R59 between Viljoenskroon and Parys.

The members continued to patrol in the Parys CBD area when they spotted the said vehicle with five male occupants.

The team tactically approached the vehicle and while searching the vehicle, they discovered bundles of copper cable.
It was further established that two of the suspects were undocumented persons.

All five suspects were arrested and the white Mazda and copper cables with a street value of about R63 000 were confiscated.

The five suspects will appear before the Parys Magistrate Court on Friday, 26 April 2024 on charges of possession of copper cables.
