Shova Kalula Bicycle Programme reaches out to school pupils in Mpumalanga

The National Department of Transport continues to reach out to more deserving learners through the Shova Kalula Bicycle programme.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Lisa Mangcu will on Tueday,16 April 2024 distribute over 200 bicycles to deserving learners in the Dr J.S. Moroka Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.

Learners from Malatse Senior Secondary School will receive 82 bicycles, while pupils from Moepi Senior Secondary School will be allocated 129 bicycles.

The Shova Kalula National Bicycle project was introduced by the Department of Transport in 2001 to alleviate transport pressure on poor households. The programme has benefited over 100 000 learners to date who walk more than 3 to 5 kilometres to and from school daily.
