The upgrade of main road P16-2 from gravel to blackop will cover 27.3 kilometres at an estimated cost of R639 million

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka today handed over the contractor for the upgrade of P16-2 in Kranskop, Umvoti Local Municipality.

The upgrade of main road P16-2 from gravel to blackop will cover 27.3 kilometres at an estimated cost of R639 million.

This project will facilitate easier and safer transportation routes, fostering economic growth and prosperity.
Over 900 employment opportunities will be created with more than 20 emerging contractors set to benefit from subcontracting.

MEC Hlomuka was joined by Umvoti Local Municipality deputy mayor, Cllr. Ntombi Ngubane, Local House of Traditional Leadership, Inkosi uDlomo and Inkosi uSithole, stakeholders, ward councillors and senior officials.

Hlomuka concluded his day by officially unveiling the contractor for the upgrade of P16-2 and also engaged the local community of ward 05, 06 and 14.
