Two intoxicated drivers from the same vehicle arrested in Thembisa

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Thembisa Precinct Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects from the same vehicle, for driving while under the influence of alcohol, in the Thembisa area.

During the normal routine check, on Letsiakarane street by the Lekaneng section, Officers stopped an approaching white Ford Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV), with two (2) male occupants. As Law Enforcers greeted the duo and stated a reason for stopping them, there was a strong odour of liquor, from the driver and the breathalyzer test, was conducted.

The reading from a device, used to determine the alcohol intake, came out very high and a tipsy 29-year-old motorist, was handcuffed. While Officers were busy effecting an arrest, a passenger switched seats on an idling bakkie and occupied the drivers.

As he was selecting gears, about to take off, he was stopped and the unnoticeable drunk 35-year-old passenger, who made an attempt to drive off, was also tested and locked-up. The registered medical practitioner was summoned, to come and draw blood specimen from the twosome before they were marched to the Thembisa police station.

The apprehended pair, facing charges of ‘driving while under the influence of alcohol or an intoxicating substance’ are expected to appear, at the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.

Their ride was impounded at the EMPD Thembisa precinct, for safe keeping.
