KZN top cop to meet with disgruntled Durban taxi drivers

KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has scheduled an urgent meeting with police and taxi drivers this weekend.

He’s met with disgruntled operators who staged protests blocking several routes in Durban this morning.

Long-distance taxi drivers told the police chief that they feel they’re being targeted through Operation Shanela.

Under the anti-crime initiative, law enforcement teams have been conducting regular stop and searches, roadblocks and vehicle checks.

This morning, minibuses, trucks and busses were targeted by unknown groups, who forced drivers out of their vehicles and used them to block traffic.

Police are trying to establish who was behind the disruption and the reasons for it.

Traffic has, meanwhile, begun moving again on the N3.
