One suspect succumbs to injury by high voltage shock after being involved in cable theft and two suspects arrested in Vryheid.
Two of our armed response officers were dispatched onto Utrecht Street after a man was seen with visible burns and injuries on the street. On arrival, our officers noticed that the man was unconscious. The ambulance and fire department were notified and arrived on scene. A few bystanders who witnessed the events informed them that three suspects were trying to steal copper and brass from a substation.
One of the suspects escaped but was chased and apprehended by our officer. He confessed to everything and the tools used to commit the crime was also handed over to SAPS. The third suspect was also taken to the police station.
A case was opened for damage to property for over R950k, attempted murder and possession of tools used in the crime.
