wo (2) wanted Robbery Suspects were arrested by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) & released when it was established that no complainant/victim had registered criminal cases.
On Friday (28/06/2024) the RUSA Social Media Administrator released the picture of two wanted Robbery Suspects that had robbed several victims at knifepoint during daylight hours in the Verulam Central Business District in Kwazulu Natal. The intention was to identify the perpetrators & apprehended the duo before they committed further crimes.
Earlier today (Sunday) Reaction Officers received information on the whereabouts of one suspect who had fled upon learning that he was sought by Law Enforcement.
Several Reaction Officers planned an Operation that led them to Hazelmere- KZN. After a brief search one Robber was found concealed behind a sofa in a home belonging to a relative. He was immediately arrested.
When interviewed the suspect informed Reaction Officers that he fled the Verulam – CBD when he was informed that RUSA Officers had obtained CCTV footage was searching for him. His accomplice opted to remain in the Verulam CBD & continue with the robberies. The suspect then led Officers to Ireland Street and pointed out the area the second robber wiuld be hiding.
After a brief observation, Reaction Officers entered a dense bush and noticed approximately fifteen drug users fleeing. Officers pursued the wanted robber and attempted to apprehend him. The suspect produced a knife attempted to stab a Reaction Officer. He was tackled to the ground and restrained.
When Officers transported both suspects to the South African Police Services (SAPS), it was established that no robbery victim had registered a criminal cases.
Both suspects were released.
